Mapping Our Community
Welcome to Hidden History OC, a teacher's guide to Primary Resource locations in Orange County. According to the Library of Congress, primary resources can be used to support inquiry based learning, help students make deeper connections to historic materials, and assist students in mastering critical thinking skills. Many teachers are excited to utilize primary sources in their lesson plans, but are unsure of where to find sources. Others feel the search for primary sources may be too time-consuming to be worth the effort. The mission of this website is to guide and assist teachers in their search for sources. This website will:
- guide teachers to local primary resource locations in Orange County
- provide direct links to resources in the most time efficient manner
- discuss hints for finding and utilizing sources
- provide sample sets of primary sources and how they may be used in a lesson plan
- support a blog and discussion board where fellow teachers can share new locations, sample sets, and ideas
This website was designed specifically for teachers. Locations are organized according to local school districts, so that teachers may quickly and easily find nearby primary resources. A separate collection dedicated to digital primary resources is also provided for those teachers who are unable to physically visit a location. The goal of this website is to provide the easiest access to resources, so please feel free to share any ideas regarding the organization, layout, or content of the site. Feedback is welcome through the Contact Us link.
